The Arizona desert growing season is underway. Unseasonably high temperatures are forecast (upper 80s to low 90s) this week. Heat-related quality defects (listed below) are expected to develop in all lettuce and leafy green items:

• Bottom Rot
• Dehydration
• Dense Texture
• Internal Burn
• Growth Cracking
• Mildew Pressure
• Rib Blight
• Sun Scalding
• Weak Tip

Markon inspectors are working with suppliers to pack the best available product, but recommend ordering for quick turns and maintaining the cold chain.
