FROM THE FIELDS: High Temperatures in California's Salinas Valley
August 28, 2017
A heat wave is expected over the next several days in the Salinas Valley, with temperatures hitting the upper 90s in some areas by Monday, August 28.
Heat-related defects such as bottom rot, decay, dense texture, increased insect pressure, internal burn, premature pinking, seeder, and shortened shelf-life may develop in commodity and value-added items. Markon recommends ordering for quick turns and maintaining the cold chain to maximize quality and shelf-life.
