FROM THE FIELDS: Harvesting Delays in the Desert Region

February 04, 2016

Harvesting crews will be delayed this morning due to lettuce ice on row crops in the Arizona/California desert growing region. Morning temperatures have dipped into the low-to-mid 30s. Production and loading delays are also expected to continue into Friday, February 5 as a result of the lettuce ice. Some crews will not begin harvesting this morning until approximately 9:30-10:30 AM (MST).

Another wave of freeze-related quality issues is likely to occur in lettuce and other row crop items, but temperatures are predicted to warm up again by Saturday, February 6. Markon inspectors will be monitoring field conditions and crop quality closely and will update further as needed.
