FROM THE FIELDS: Desert Weather Update

A significant cold snap has moved into the in the Arizona/California desert growing region which will cause widespread lettuce ice today through Tuesday, January 11 – 14. Morning temperatures in the low-to-upper 30s today, with only slight warming expected over the next few days.
The entire desert row crop industry is being impacted by ongoing cold that is stalling plant maturity and causing quality issues that are further reducing case weights and yields. Depending on Mother Nature, it could be three-to-four more weeks before case weights and yields normalize.
