FROM THE FIELDS: DESERT REGION WEATHER

December 10, 2020

The Arizona/California desert region is experiencing scattered showers this morning which will clear up by 7:00 AM (MST). No more than .10” is expected, which will not be enough to cause any significant harvesting delays today. Markon inspectors will be closely monitoring commodity and value-added lettuce items for any quality or shelf life implications such as premature pinking.

Cooler temperatures return Friday, December 11 through Monday, December 14, with light-to-moderate lettuce ice expected due to morning temperatures in the low-to-mid 30°’s by Saturday. Harvesting and loading delays, as well as an increase in frost-related issues such as epidermal blister and peeling are anticipated over the next several days.
