FROM THE FIELDS: Desert Region Weather

November 25, 2019

The Arizona/California desert growing region received between a quarter inch to an inch of rainfall between Tuesday, November 19 through Thursday, November 21. Muddy field conditions have slowed harvesting for broccoli, cauliflower, lettuces, and other items. Rain-related defects such as bottom rot and growth cracking have developed in some fields, but are manageable and not widespread.

Another series of low pressure systems will pass through the region on Wednesday and Thursday of this week with over a half inch of rain possible. Temperatures will also be cooler throughout the week, possibly causing lettuce ice to develop by Saturday, November 30.
