FROM THE FIELDS: Desert Region Quality
January 09, 2019
Decreased case weights and yields are expected for roughly the next three weeks.
The Arizona/California desert growing region experienced intermittent cold snaps in late December and early January. Some long-term effects from the freezing temperatures are now being observed, such as slowed plant growth, epidermal blistering, peeling in lettuce items (see photos), and yellow discoloration in tender leaf items.
Markon inspectors are monitoring supplies closely and will update further as needed.
