FROM THE FIELDS: DESERT HEAT SPIKE
November 17, 2020
The Arizona/California desert growing region will experience record high temperatures today through Thursday due to a high pressure ridge in place. Daytime highs in the upper 80°s to low 90°s are expected.
Although unseasonably warm, the shorter days will limit the duration of peak temperatures and the overnight lows will still be in the upper 40°s to low 50°s. Sporadic heat-related issues may develop in lettuce crops, but the more likely impact will be a period of accelerated growth and increased case weights.
Markon inspectors will be monitoring supplies and will update further as needed.
