For the second consecutive day, early morning temperatures dipped into the mid 30s causing widespread lettuce ice that will delay harvesting crews in the Arizona/California desert growing region. Start times will be pushed back to approximately 9:30-10:30 AM (MST) or until crops have thawed sufficiently.

The forecast is still calling for cooler daytime highs and more lettuce ice over the next few days. High winds with gusts of 35 mph or more will pass through the area Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3, potentially decreasing the severity of ice on those days, but also threatening to dehydrate lettuce, tender leaf, and other desert row crop items.
