FROM THE FIELDS: Continued Widespread Lettuce Ice
January 04, 2019
For the third consecutive day, cooler weather conditions in the Arizona/California desert growing region are leading to widespread lettuce ice. Harvest and cooling delays are anticipated as crews are on standby until fields thaw. Consecutive mornings with freezing temperatures will inhibit plant growth, slowing maturity of crops.
A chance for rain is also forecast for Sunday, January 6, with anywhere from .08” -.20” expected. Markon inspectors will be monitoring field conditions closely and will update as needed.
