FROM THE FIELDS: Central Coast Rain Update

May 20, 2019

California central coast growing regions received more rainfall this past Saturday and Sunday. The Salinas Valley received approximately one inch and the Santa Maria area recorded between a half inch and three quarters of an inch.

Light showers are expected to return late tonight and into tomorrow morning, Tuesday, May 21. Field conditions will be very wet and muddy for the next few days, which will lead to harvesting and loading delays for all row crops in these regions. Lettuces and strawberries are most susceptible to rain-related quality and shelf life concerns, which could be experienced for the next two weeks.
