FOOD SAFETY UPDATE: Pero Family Farms Food Co. and Lancaster Foods Recall Butternut Squash Due to Listeria Monocytogenes
This update does not apply to any Markon First Crop, Ready-Set-Serve, or Markon Essentials products.
Pero Family Farms Food Company and Lancaster Foods initiated a voluntary product recall of its Butternut Squash because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes. A full listing of recalled products for Pero Family Farms and Lancaster Foods is available on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website. The products were distributed to wholesalers and retail food stores with best by dates between 01/04/21 and 01/22/21.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue. These voluntary recalls were the result of notification of possible Listeria contamination from Race West Company, a supplier of butternut squash to Pero Family Farms. Both companies have temporarily halted production of these items as the FDA continues their investigation.
Attached for your review are the FDA press releases.
Markon will update members as more information becomes available.
