FOOD SAFETY UPDATE: Outbreak of Salmonella Newport Infections
This update does not apply to any Markon First Crop, Ready-Set-Serve, or Markon Essentials products.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections. This investigation is ongoing and a specific food item, grocery store, or restaurant chain has not been identified as the source of infections.
CDC is not recommending that consumers avoid any particular food at this time. Restaurants and retailers are not advised to avoid serving or selling any particular food. This investigation is ongoing. CDC will provide more information as it becomes available.
What we know:
- 76 total illnesses in 15 states
- 24 hospitalizations, 0 deaths
- Illness onset date June 19, 2020 thru July 9, 2020
