FOOD SAFETY UPDATE: Jack Brown Produce Recalls Apples Due to Listeria Monocytogenes

This update does not apply to any Markon First Crop, Ready-Set-Serve, or Markon Essentials products.

Jack Brown Produce, Inc. of Sparta, MI is recalling Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp and Golden Delicious apples packed and shipped at one of their supplier facilities, Nyblad Orchards, due to potential contamination by Listeria monocytogenes. The recall was triggered after routine sampling at the Nyblad Orchards facility revealed that finished products contained Listeria monocytogenes. Jack Brown Produce has ceased distribution of any products packed at Nyblad Orchards as the company and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continue to investigation the cause of the problem.

The affected products were packed and shipped at Nyblad Orchards from December 11 through December 16, 2017 and sold or distributed by Jack Brown Produce under the brand name Apple Ridge. The products were distributed to retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with these products at this time.

No Markon products are included in this recall nor did Markon purchase any of the implicated packer label products. Please remember to physically check your inventory to ensure none of the affected products are in your warehouse.
