Markon is closely monitoring a public health advisory from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) regarding a recent surge in Cyclospora infections in Texas. State health officials are investigating 56 cases that have been reported since the beginning of May 2018. DSHS is working with local health departments around the state and health departments in other states seeing an outbreak to gather information about the cases and determine whether there is a common source for the infections. Although an investigation to determine a common source of the illnesses is under way, at this time a specific product has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

What we know:

• There have been 56 cases of Cyclospora infections reported in Texas since May 2018
• There were 319 cases of Cyclospora infections reported in Texas last year
• Past outbreaks in the U.S. have been associated with consumption of imported fresh produce, including fresh cilantro, pre-packaged salad mix, raspberries, basil, snow peas, and mesclun greens
• Texas has had multiple Cyclospora outbreaks linked to cilantro
• A specific product has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing
