Receiving Inspecting:

Berries should be dry, clean, plump, bright, and well-colored. Avoid leaky, soft, or dull berries, or those with caps still attached.

Storage Handling:
 

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 90-98% relative humidity

Proper storage is critical to shelf-life.

3 to 6 days.
Troubleshooting:

Fruit breakdown or collapse indicates chill injury.

Leaky berries indicate overripe fruit; green berries or berries with caps still attached are under-ripe.

Usage Ideas:

  • Purée blackberries, buttermilk, sugar, cream, and gelatin; chill until firm; serve panna cotta with macerated blackberries and their juice.
  • Stir crumbled bacon and blackberries into waffle batter; cook waffle; top with whole berries.
