UPDATE: California Strawberries

California strawberry supplies are increasing; warmer weather in the Oxnard and Santa Maria, California growing regions over the weekend has promoted growth. Another series of rain events is expected to hit Friday, April 6 through Saturday, April 7, bringing up to two more inches of rain to some areas. As a result, supplies will tighten. Expect limited volume by early next week.
Oxnard
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are sporadic; Markon Best Available and packer label are being substituted due to rain in California
- Supplies have increased due to warmer weather over the weekend
- Markets are steady at elevated levels
- Rain toward the end of the week is expected to limit supplies by early next week
Santa Maria
- MFC Strawberries are sporadic; packer label is being substituted due to rain
- Supplies are increasing due to favorable weather
- Prices are steady
- Supplies are forecast to tighten next week due to rain hitting the growing region Friday through Saturday
Watsonville
- Harvesting has begun in a very limited way
- Rain has also impacted production in this growing region
- Stocks are expected to ramp up by mid-April
Florida and Mexico (into South Texas)
- The seasons in Florida and Mexico have ended for most suppliers
- Packer label stocks are limited
- Production will continue to decline over the next several weeks
