UPDATE SUMMARY: Week of November 7, 2016

Celery:
- California’s Salinas Valley season will end by the week of November 21; harvesting will ramp up in Oxnard, California over the next several weeks
- Growing conditions are ideal
- Quality is excellent
- Pith is a minor issue caused by recent rains
- Strong demand for Thanksgiving and harvesting transitions are causing the market to spike
- Prices will remain elevated through the winter as fewer acres were planted in Oxnard
Idaho Potatoes:
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Burbank and Norkotah Potatoes are readily available (shipped from storage)
- New crop White Russet supplies are also on the market
- Quality is very good for all three varieties, including Burbank, Norkotah, and White Russets; expect fewer bruises in White Russet stocks
- The market is steady to slightly lower than last week; supply exceeds demand
Melons:
- MFC Cantaloupe and Honeydew Melons will be available through November 26, 2016
- Offshore cantaloupes and honeydews from Guatemala will arrive in Florida over the next week; supplies will be on the West Coast market by early December
- Large-size melons will dominate stocks while growers harvest early season crops
- Expect prices to rise over the next several weeks as supplies diminish
