Live From the Fields: Romaine Inspections, Salinas, CA
Take a walk with our inspectors as they review Romaine fields.
Rain in April followed by heat over the last eight days is causing sporadic quality challenges; some varieties are affected more than others. During pre-harvest inspections, Markon’s Quality Assurance Team thoroughly review fields to select the best sections or varieties. Overall yields and case weights are high, but all fields require constant monitoring at this time as they change from day to day. Markon inspectors are currently reporting elevated fringe burn, internal burn, and sporadic mildew pressure in some romaine varieties.
