Spinach, Flat Leaf

Flat Leaf Spinach
Receiving Inspecting:

Look for clean, fresh, fairly crisp leaves with good green coloring. Avoid wilted spinach or spinach with long stems.

Storage Handling:

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 34-36° F/1-2° C
  • 90-98% relative humidity
Shelf-Life:
10 to 14 days.
Troubleshooting:

Spinach is very perishable and will quickly deteriorate if exposed to high temperatures.

Wilting may occur if product is stored in an area with low humidity. Store properly.

Exposure to ethylene gas can cause yellowing of leaves; keep spinach away from ethylene-producing fruits and ripening rooms.

Usage Ideas:

  • Toss spinach with chopped hard-boiled eggs, minced red bell peppers, and sunflower seeds; serve with warm bacon dressing.
  • Layer lasagna noodles with black beans, sautéed spinach, roasted red bell peppers, and ricotta cheese.
