Carambolas

Carambolas
Common Packs:

12- to 30-count cartons

Receiving Inspecting:

Look for fruit that is firm, shiny-skinned, and yellow-green to yellow in color. Some browning along the fins is natural and does not affect fruit quality. Often shipped before it is completely ripe, Carambola may exhibit some green coloring.

Storage Handling:

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 45-50° F/7-10° C
  • 95% relative humidity
Shelf-Life:
14 to 21 days.
Troubleshooting:

Carambolas are sensitive to chill injury if stored below 41° F/5° C.

Fins may become bruised if ripe fruit is handled roughly. Keep handling to a minimum.

Usage Ideas:

  • Serve strawberries, sliced carambolas, chopped bananas, and angel food cake with chocolate fondue.
  • Use dehydrated carambola slices as dessert garnishes or chips with hummus and dips.
