Receiving Inspecting:

Select firm, freshly-colored, small-stemmed broccoli raab with relatively few buds and open flowers. Avoid wilted or yellowed leaves or stems.

Storage Handling:

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 34-36° F/1-2° C
  • 90-98% relative humidity
10 to 14 days.

Holding broccoli raab for long periods of time may result in discoloration, loss of buds, or general softening of the product.

Exposure to ethylene gas can cause yellow bud clusters and loss of buds. For best quality, keep broccoli raab away from ethylene-producing fruits and ripening rooms.

Usage Ideas:

  • Sauté broccoli raab with garlic and Italian sausage; serve with polenta.
  • Add sautéed broccoli raab, sliced onions, and saffron to eggs and cream; bake until firm; cut into squares.
