Receiving Inspecting:

Pears should be aromatic and hard; Asian pears do not soften as they become ripe. Avoid fruit with brown spotting or soft texture.

Storage Handling:
 

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 32-36° F/0-2° C
  • 85-95% relative humidity

Ripen Asian pears by storing them at 55-70° F/ 13-21° C. Ripe fruit should be refrigerated.

Shelf-Life:
30 days.

Water-soaked appearance, uneven ripeness, and lack of flavor indicate improper storage temperatures.

Usage Ideas:

  • Combine shredded Asian pears with shredded carrots and cabbage; mix with ginger-soy dressing.
