General Produce
Arugula
Receiving Inspecting:
Arugula should be clean and fresh with well-colored leaves. Avoid product that appears wilted, discolored, or damaged.
Storage Handling:
Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)
- 34-36° F/1-2° C
- 90-98% relative humidity
Follow good rotation practices: first shipments in should be used or displayed first (FIFO - first in, first out).
Shelf-Life:
7 to 10 days.
Troubleshooting:
Russet and brown spotting may be caused by exposure to ethylene gas. Store arugula away from ethylene-producing fruits and ripening rooms.
Wilting can result if product is stored in an area with low humidity.
Rough handling may contribute to leaf breakdown and deterioration. Handle arugula with care.
Yellow, dried-out, translucent leaves are an indication of freeze damage. Store properly.
Usage Ideas:
- Mix arugula with chopped Granny Smith apples and candied walnuts; dress with pomegranate vinaigrette.
- Stir arugula and chopped tomatoes into lentil-sausage soup; serve with crusty bread.
