Broccoli
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Broccoli Crowns are available from Mexico (into South Texas) and in Yuma, California; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted when needed
- Mexican quality is very good; yellowing is a problem in Arizona/California stocks
- The market will increase over the next several weeks
Cauliflower
- Markon Essentials (ESS) Cauliflower is available in Yuma, Arizona
- Overall quality is very good: creamy color remains an occasional issue
- Prices will continue to increase as supplies tighten
Lettuce and Leafy Greens
- MFC Premium Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine are available in Yuma, Arizona; MBA is being substituted as needed
- Below-average temperatures in the Arizona/California desert region continue to limit harvesting, elevating lettuce and leafy green prices
- Expect additional market activity from early to mid-March as suppliers transition north to Huron, California, then to Salinas, California
Limes
- MFC and ESS Limes are sporadic; packer label is being substituted as needed
- Supplies are limited in Mexico (into South Texas); strong winds knocked blooms off trees several months ago during Mexico’s rainy season
- High prices and tight supplies are common during this time of the year
Strawberries
Oxnard and Santa Maria, California
- MFC Strawberries are sporadic; MBA and packer label is being substituted when necessary
- Freezing temperatures have impacted production; growers anticipate 15%-20% damage
- Expect elevated prices through the month
Mexico (into South Texas)
- MFC Strawberries are sporadic; MBA and packer label is being substituted when necessary
- Quality is average: bruising is an occasional problem
- Limited quantities are being shipped into South Texas; prices are stable
Florida
- MFC Strawberries are sporadic; MBA and packer label is being substituted when necessary
- Quality is very good
- Supplies are expected to remain plentiful through March
- Prices are stable
Onions
- MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onions are readily available in the Northwest; fresh-run Mexican onions, crossing into South Texas, are also being shipped
- Texas-grown MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onions are forecast to enter the market in mid-March
- MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onions are expected to become available in California and New Mexico in late May
