UPDATE: Cold Weather in Arizona/California
December 20, 2017
Over the next few days, temperatures will dip below normal in most California and Southern Arizona growing regions.
- Major crops that will be affected include: broccoli, cauliflower, celery, citrus, leafy greens, lettuces, and strawberries
- Markon First Crop items are limited; Markon Best Available or packer label will be substituted as needed
- Sustained cold weather conditions can stunt growth and slow plant maturity
- Citrus groves may experience freeze damage if temperatures dip into the 20s for four or more hours; sprinklers and wind machines will used in most groves as frost prevention
- With frost expected in the mornings in most growing regions, expect harvesting delays as crews must wait for temperatures to increase before they harvest fields
